HR Process and Technology Review for Georgiou

Share

The Project

Georgiou is a national civil and building construction company delivering projects for government and private-sector clients across Australia, with offices in Perth, Brisbane and Sydney.

As the organisation continued to operate across a complex and growing business environment, Georgiou recognised an opportunity to review its existing people processes, systems and technology to determine whether they were effectively supporting the needs of the business.

Georgiou engaged the Fuse HR team to undertake a comprehensive People & Performance and technology consulting project.

The challenge was not simply to identify a new HR system.

Before investing in technology, Georgiou needed to understand how its existing processes were performing, where inefficiencies and bottlenecks existed, what those inefficiencies were costing the organisation and what capabilities would genuinely be required from a future solution.

This required a detailed review spanning people, processes and technology.

Over seven months, our team worked closely with Georgiou’s Executive Leadership Team and Human Resources function to understand existing processes, procedures and systems and establish clear requirements for the future.

The objective was to give Georgiou the evidence and structure required to make an informed technology investment rather than allowing available technology to dictate how the organisation should operate.

The Fuse Approach

Our approach started with the business processes themselves.

We conducted a detailed Process and Productivity Audit to understand how Georgiou’s existing HR processes and procedures operated in practice.

This involved identifying process bottlenecks, areas of duplication and inefficiency, and opportunities where automation or process enhancement could improve productivity.

Importantly, the review went beyond identifying that a process was inefficient. We examined the potential business cost associated with those inefficiencies, providing Georgiou with greater visibility over the commercial impact of its existing ways of working.

The analysis identified multiple process bottlenecks with an estimated average cost of more than $260,000 per annum.

With the current state clearly understood, our team then undertook a detailed business requirements analysis.

Working with Georgiou’s Executive Leadership Team and HR function, we scoped the organisation’s future requirements across processes, procedures and existing systems. This helped establish what Georgiou actually needed its future HR technology environment to deliver.

This was an important distinction.

Rather than moving directly into the market and comparing software features, the process allowed Georgiou to establish its business requirements first and then assess potential technology solutions against those needs.

From this analysis, we developed the documentation required to take the project to market through a formal Request for Information process.

Our team then managed the vendor engagement, assessment and selection process across Human Capital Management, HR and Time & Attendance systems.

Potential vendors were assessed against Georgiou’s defined business requirements, helping create a more objective and evidence-based selection process.

To further strengthen the evaluation, we developed a bespoke assessment framework for stakeholders to use during vendor presentations.

This provided decision-makers with a consistent method for considering each solution and helped ensure assessments remained focused on Georgiou’s operational requirements rather than individual product features or sales presentations.

Following the vendor assessment process, our team produced an in-depth analytics report demonstrating vendor capability and providing Georgiou with further evidence to support its technology decisions.

Across the seven-month engagement, our support included:

  • conducting a Process and Productivity Audit;
  • identifying process bottlenecks and opportunities for automation;
  • quantifying the cost of identified process inefficiencies;
  • undertaking detailed business requirements analysis;
  • engaging the Executive Leadership Team and HR function to define future requirements;
  • reviewing existing processes, procedures and systems;
  • preparing documentation for the Request for Information process;
  • identifying appropriate Human Capital Management and Time & Attendance vendors;
  • managing vendor engagement, assessment and selection;
  • developing a bespoke stakeholder assessment framework for vendor presentations; and
  • preparing detailed analytics demonstrating vendor capability and potential return on investment.

The result was a structured approach that connected HR process improvement with technology selection and commercial decision-making.

The Outcome

The project gave Georgiou a clearer understanding of both the performance of its existing HR processes and the opportunity available through process improvement and technology.

The Process and Productivity Audit identified multiple bottlenecks, with an estimated average cost to the organisation of more than $260,000 per annum.

By quantifying these inefficiencies, Georgiou was able to move beyond a general desire to improve its systems and understand the potential commercial case for change.

The subsequent requirements and vendor assessment process identified suitable solutions across both Time & Attendance and Human Capital Management, giving the organisation a more informed basis for evaluating future HR technology.

Most significantly, the analysis calculated an estimated seven-year return on investment of $2 million.

These findings provided Georgiou’s leadership team with evidence to evaluate technology investment against measurable business outcomes rather than considering HR systems purely as an operational expense.

The engagement also demonstrates an important principle when organisations are considering HR technology transformation: technology should follow the business requirement, not define it.

Understanding existing processes first allows organisations to identify what needs to change, determine where automation will create genuine value and select technology that supports the way the organisation needs to operate.

For Georgiou, this meant connecting HR transformation with productivity, efficiency and measurable commercial value.
